Ma Qinghua says his qualifying pace at WTCR Race of Slovakia is the culmination of a lot of hard work in a short space of time by Team Mulsanne.

The Chinese driver joined the Italian squad for the 2019 WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO but has spent the last few months playing catch up due to limited testing opportunities in the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce TCR by Romeo Ferraris.

But by going third quickest in both First and Second Qualifying on Friday, Ma said he his starting to reap the rewards of his team’s efforts.

“It’s been a difficult start to the season because we haven’t had the chance to do a lot of testing, so basically the Barcelona testing was only the shakedown for us, so unfortunately we don’t have so much data. Also for me it’s a new team, new car, everything is quite new. We started a bit rushed but for the last two races we have learned a lot and corrected a lot of positive things from the races.

“For the qualifying we put all the good things from the Free Practice sessions together and it seems to work. It’s not perfect but we are in the right direction. But we’ve got to keep our head down and keep working hard to catch the guys in the front.”
