Thed Björk is hoping for ‘another Ningbo’ in his bid to win the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO.

Björk, who drives a Hyundai i30 N TCR for Yvan Muller’s team, faces the prospect of leaving WTCR JVCKENWOOD Race of Japan without any points following a DNF in Race 1 following contact with Gordon Shedden and a troubled qualifying left him P13 on the grid for Race 2 and Race 3 at Suzuka.

“There are still a lot of races to go and I’m of Macau as Ningbo,” said Björk, a double winner at the Chinese track last month. “You can get so much points being there all the time so I keep fighting to try to get the points and see where we are.”

Of his Friday qualifying woes, the 2017 FIA World Touring Car champion said: “It took some time to dial the car in to what I needed on this track and that’s why it meant I didn’t get to the point where I wanted to be fast enough. When you’ve got this day with all the practice and qualifications there’s no time to relax and think about it.”

Gabriele Tarquini still tops the WTCR OSCARO standings for BRC Racing Team. However, Muller is now level on points with the Italian with Björk slipping 17 points off the title pace ahead of Race 2 at WTCR JVCKENWOOD Race of Japan, which is due to begin at 11h05 local time.
