Catsburg’s message to rival after WTCR qualifying: “You showed them Niels!”
Nicky Catsburg broke off from celebrating his double DHL pole position at WTCR Race of Slovakia yesterday by messaging his fellow Dutchman and racing rival Niels Langeveld with words of support.
Langeveld is the only driver in the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO yet to score points in 2019 and called on his friend Catsburg ahead of the Slovakia weekend for some advice.
“I was speaking to Niels just before we came here,” Catsburg explained. “Obviously it’s super-nice for him that he got the deal with Audi. He’s been trying very hard for a long time and he fully deserves it.
“Yesterday, right after qualifying, I sent him a message to say ‘hey Niels, you showed them how it’s done’, because he did really well yesterday and I’m super, super-happy for him.”
After going P16 in First Qualifying, Langeveld excelled in Second Qualifying, progressing to Q2 for the first time and ending up seventh in the combined order, prompting more praise from Catsburg, part of the BRC Hyundai N LUKOIL Racing Team line-up in WTCR / OSCARO.
“I have a lot of respect for him the way he positioned himself in the world of motorsport over the last couple of years, he really worked super-hard to get where he is,” said Catsburg. “I really liked the way he did this.”
