Colossal effort got Muller's team to WTCR opener
Yvan Muller has revealed how he feared his team would not be ready for the opening event of the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Car Cup presented by OSCARO.
The motorsport legend’s eponymous squad is embarking on its first touring car campaign in 2018, fielding Hyundai i30 N TCRs for Muller and Thed Björk. But with limited preparation time, Muller admitted it took a “colossal” effort to make the Marrakech opener where it celebrated a DHL pole positon and three podiums.
“The last weeks were really complicated,” Muller explained. “We worked days and night, we had some difficult moments, asking ourselves if we would do it, because the amount of work that we had was colossal, you cannot imagine the list of all the small details that we had to deal with.
“Eight days ago, we were even unsure to be there, and now we are here, we have three podiums, a pole position, one second place, we could not hope for better results. I’m on the podium [for Race 3], I’m happy, but I made already a lot of podiums, it is not one podium more that will make me feel happy. But what makes me really happy, is to see that we’ve succeed.
“The last efforts we made to put all together, find the budget, with Justine [Monnier, his wife], we can be proud of all what we have done. Moreover, as if it was not enough, we have two other programs to deal with [LMP3 and GT4 in France].”
