Tiago Monteiro has revealed how his cousin came up with the number design he will use on his return to full-time racing in this season’s WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO.

Monteiro, back in action after recovering from serious head and neck injuries sustained in a testing crash in 2017, will form part of the Honda-powered KCMG line-up and continue to carry his regular number 18.

He explained: “My nickname for many years was ‘Flash’ or ‘Thunder’, I even had it tattooed on my arm 10 years ago, that’s how important it was for me. Since then my cousin, who has been designing my logos and helmets, actually came up with a great combination, a cool modern and retro look that also some speed effect.”

WTCR / OSCARO promoter Eurosport Events is inviting drivers to submit their own race number designs for 2019. While they won’t feature on the sides or windscreens of the competing cars in accordance with the WTCR / OSCARO sporting regulations from the FIA, they will have several uses to appeal to fans, including television graphics and autograph session display material.
