Comtoyou Racing’s Aurélien Panis scored his first Audi first in the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO with sixth place in Second Qualifying in Vila Real.

Panis was the fastest driver in an Audi RS 3 LMS setting the sixth quickest time and narrowly missing out on his first appearance in the Qualifying Q3 DHL Pole Position shootout.

“I’m very happy with this qually, first Audi for the first time for me,” said the Frenchman. “Thanks to Comtoyou Racing and Audi Sport, the car was really nice to drive. Now we will see now for the race.”

While Panis enjoyed a qualifying high, it was a frustrating Sunday morning for team-mate Frédéric Vervisch, who was eliminated in the opening 40-minute session.

“We believe it was a driveshaft,” the Belgian said afterwards. “If [the driveshaft is] the problem it’s an issue and we need to investigate it and make it better for the future.”

Meanwhile, Comtoyou’s other drivers, Nathanaël Berthon and Denis Dupton, were P12 and P18 respectively. Like Vervisch, Berthon and Dupont are racing on the 4.79-kilometre Circuito Internacional de Vila Real for the first time.
