Focused Lessennes continues WTCR adventure
Benjamin Lessennes admits he must be “really focused” at WTCR Race of Netherlands in Zandvoort this weekend.
The Belgian, who at 18 is the youngest driver in the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO, starts what is effectively his home round of the championship on the back of a season-high fourth place at the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
Although Lessennes is in his first season of international racing and under strict orders to learn as much as possible, his knowledge of Circuit Zandvoort puts him in a slightly difficult position in terms of how much he can push.
“Zandvoort will be the only track this year that I will have a base [knowledge and set-up] because all the other tracks are and will be new to me,” said the Boutsen Ginion Racing Honda driver. “And because I know the track I have to be really focused and make no mistakes. It will be a hard job but there is no pressure. I am only 18 so first I am here to learn, do a good job and keep the car of Tiago Monteiro on track but also try to make the podium quickly.”
