Yann Ehrlacher’s capture of second place in Race 1 at WTCR Race of Portugal earlier this month owed plenty to the Frenchman’s instinct behind the wheel of his Lynk & Co 03 TCR.

In the latest episode of Challenge the World, a series of behind-the-scenes videos charting the Cyan Racing and Lynk & Co partnership’s bid for glory in the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO, Ehrlacher explains why he delayed joking the mandatory ‘joker’ lap in the first of three races in Vila Real.

“My target was not to keep my third place but to overtake Augusto [Farfus for second position],” said Ehrlacher. “I didn’t listen to what Kev [Berry, my engineer] told me. I wanted a little bit more, at least to be in the middle of the two Hyundais. I took the risk, it was not planned at the briefing to do this, but it works.”

Footage is also included from Race 3 when Ehrlacher did follow Berry’s instructions to ensure third place behind team-mate and uncle Yvan Muller.

The latest episode of Challenge the World is titledAn Emotional Weekend in Portugalto reflect on the passing of a Cyan Racing technician, who fell ill on the Saturday evening of the event. Christian Dahl, the founder and owner of Cyan Racing, joins his drivers in paying tribute.
