Benjamin Leuchter will be kept busy in 2019, combining his maiden campaign in the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO with a VLN Endurance Championship attack for Max Kruse Racing.

Volkswagen-powered Leuchter raced for the Werder Bremen striker’s eponymous squad in ADAC TCR Germany last year. He will continue his alliance with the footballing star in a Golf GTI TCR in the Nürburgring Nordschleife-based series, teaming up with Andreas Gülden, the Chief Instructor at the Nürburgring Driving Academy.

“For Volkswagen and me the focus this year is clearly the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup,” Leuchter explained. “But as the plans for Max Kruse Racing became more concrete, I was determined to give the best possible support for the next step. The team made a great job last year. Ultimately, the team is responsible that I made the leap into touring car’s premier class.”

As well as testing in readiness for the upcoming WTCR / OSCARO season, Leuchter has been demonstrating his ice-driving prowess at a Volkswagen Driving Experience event in Arvidsjaur, Sweden. “Driving on ice is really the best training for a racing driver,” said the German. “Although the speed levels are much lower in comparison to race tracks, you learn every driving condition as well as the ultra-fast reactions needed for them. For us pros, driving on ice and snow is a rigorous training programme. After the few days on the ice and snow, I will be even quicker behind the wheel of the Golf GTI TCR.”
