Michelisz hoping pain means WTCR gain in Vila Real
Norbert Michelisz will be driving through the pain barrier when WTCR Race of Portugal resumes in Vila Real this afternoon.
Michelisz injured his right hand in Saturday’s multi-car accident and admitted he was in some discomfort after charging to P2 in Second Qualifying earlier today.
“It’s a bit painful and a difficult experience with the hand,” said the Hyundai-powered BRC Racing Team driver. “Finishing second in qualifying I didn’t think would be possible two hours ago and I’m a little bit worried [about my hand for the race]. On one lap you can put your teeth together but I will do my best.”
Michelisz also paid tribute to his BRC Racing Team mechanics for keeping him on track in Portugal’s rounds of the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO.
“It’s a small miracle [this second place],” the Hungarian said. “The guys did an amazing job because usually with the damage we suffered yesterday, 99 per cent you are not there on the later part of the race weekend. But again it shows the spirit and energy and professional of the BRC Racing guys. I’m really thankful for them.”
Race 2 is due to begin at 15h45 local time.
