Shedden builds on ‘Flash’ WTCR number design, praises promoter’s initiative
Gordon Shedden has praised Eurosport Events, promoter of the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO, for giving drivers the opportunity to create their own number designs.
Three-time British Touring Car champion Shedden was recently announced as part of the Leopard Racing Team Audi Sport line-up for 2019 with the Scot’s Audi RS 3 LMS carrying his familiar number 52.
“It’s really cool what Eurosport Events and WTCR are allowing us to do by really expanding our brand,” said Shedden. “This year my number 52 has got some real cool elements to it. My nickname’s Flash, so the lightning bolt features heavily. And to add something really personal, I’ve got the Scottish tartan contained within the number 52. And, very subtly, that tartan actually contains Audi Sport red as well so it’s pretty cool [and] part of Scotland.”
Shedden has recently begun his winter testing programme at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve near Portimão. “We will be racing before we all know it,” he continued. “The elbows will be out, the gloves will be off – let battle commence in 2019.”
While the individual designs won’t feature on the sides or windscreens of the competing cars in accordance with the WTCR / OSCARO sporting regulations from the FIA, they will have a number of uses to appeal to fans, including television graphics and autograph session display material.
