Tarquini beats Michelisz to WTCR TAG Heuer Best Lap Trophy
Gabriele Tarquini claimed the TAG Heuer Best Lap Trophy at WTCR Race of Slovakia despite triggering a multi-car accident in Race 3 at the Slovakia Ring on Sunday.
The Italian, who now leads the WTCR OSCARO points standings in his BRC Racing Team Hyundai i30 N TCR, set the fastest race lap of the weekend on his way to victory in Race 2 on Saturday evening. His time of 2m11.061s in cooler conditions proved quicker than team-mate Norbert Michelisz could manage on his way to victory in Race 3 – his first of the season – in the heat of Sunday. Michelisz set a fastest lap of 2m11.487s, as Tarquini ended his race in a gravel trap.
Pepe Oriola set the fastest lap in Race 1 around the 5.922km circuit on Saturday. His best lap was a 2m12.386s during the drive to his first WTCR OSCARO win of the season, in his Team OSCARO by Campos Racing Cupra TCR.
