Vernay goes multinational with WTCR number design
Jean-Karl Vernay’s number design in the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO will represent three countries dear to his heart.
Incorporating the colours of France, Japan and Luxembourg, Vernay has explained the thinking behind his creation ahead of his upcoming WTCR / OSCARO title bid with Leopard Racing Team Audi Sport.
“I have the Japanese flag because I fell in love with Japan when I was young,” the Frenchman explained. “I really love it, the culture, the country, the people and I have a bunch of friends racing there. I have the French flag because I am really proud to be French and proud of my country. Then I have the Luxembourg flag because I’m living in Luxembourg for many years. The mix of these colours is cool.”
Vernay will continue to race with number 69 on his Audi RS 3 LMS, which is the number of Rhône, his home department in France.
WTCR / OSCARO promoter Eurosport Events is inviting drivers to submit their own race number designs for 2019. While they won’t feature on the sides or windscreens of the competing cars in accordance with the WTCR / OSCARO sporting regulations from the FIA, they will have a number of uses to appeal to fans, including television graphics and autograph session display material.
