Vervisch: I’d have felt bad if I’d beaten Leuchter to Nordschleife WTCR win
Frédéric Vervisch said it would have been hard to celebrate if he’d denied Benjamin Leuchter his maiden WTCR / OSCARO victory – and not just because the SLR Volkswagen driver was competing on home soil.
Vervisch finished second to Leuchter in Race 3 at WTCR Race of Germany last Saturday as he kick-started his bid to win the 2019 WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO.
Afterwards, the Comtoyou Team Audi Sport-run Belgian was full of admiration for Leuchter following his Nürburgring Nordschleife triumph.
“Benny did an awesome job,” said Belgian Vervisch. “I even would have felt bad if I had overtaken him on the last lap with the slipstream because the move he did with Esteban [Guerrieri for the lead] was really on the edge and I probably would not have stayed there. He really deserved to win.”
Vervisch completed WTCR Race of Germany with two second-place finishes before going on to win the ADAC TOTAL 24h-Rennen outright.
