“We reacted in the perfect way”, Dupont on WTCR pace rise
Denis Dupont praised his Comtoyou Racing team after they “reacted in the perfect way” following a troubled First Qualifying at WTCR JVCKENWOOD Race of Japan yesterday.
Dupont, a double podium finisher in China, languished in P21 after the 30-minute session at Suzuka. But an upturn in form following set-up changes to his Audi RS 3 LMS elevated him to eighth in Second Qualifying, leaving him optimistic for a podium shot in Race 2, which he’s due to start in third place.
“I was satisfied with the second part of the qualification of course,” said the RACB National Team driver. “The first part was a bit difficult, we were a bit tight on the schedule to do the set-up on the car so it was a struggle. But then we just reacted in the perfect way and P8 with the Audi and Aurélien [Panis] P6 was very good for the team so we are quite happy.
“A podium on Saturday won’t be possible but on Sunday we start P3 in Race 2 so the aim is to be at the front because when you start P3 you want something out of it. But [Kevin] Ceccon starting P10 in the Alfa can win because his speed is incredible.”
Suzuka is hosting the penultimate weekend of the inaugural WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO.
