Weighting game in store for Honda-powered WTCR racers
The four Honda Civic Type R TCRs competing in the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO will carry the maximum 60 kilograms of compensation weight when the Slovakia Ring hosts the third event of the season from 10-12 May.
As part of regulations designed to create a level playing field between the competing brands, varying amounts of success ballast is added to cars at selected intervals during the season.
Following its strong start to 2019, the Honda Civic Type R will carry the maximum 60 kilograms at WTCR Race of Slovakia. Néstor Girolami, ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport’s title leader, explained the impact the added weight will have.
“Our speed at the first two rounds means we will carry more compensation weight than our main rivals, so that will make winning a tougher task, even if the long corners should suit the Civic Type R TCR well,” said the Argentine. “The important thing is that when you’re not in a position to win, you still score big points and that has to be our target this weekend.”
His team-mate Esteban Guerrieri added: “The compensation weight will definitely hurt us, but at least we’ll be the first team in the pitlane so if we get red flags in qualifying, it should affect us less than the others.”
