WTCR podium cheers Oriola
Pepe Oriola began life in the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO with a podium finish on the streets of Marrakech last week.
Although the Spaniard wasn’t able to convert his reverse-grid pole into Race 2 victory, he nevertheless took a strong third place in his Team OSCARO by Campos Racing Cupra.
“I’m really happy with a podium against a lot of good drivers,” said Oriola. “It’s also good for Cupra. But we are winners and we want to win. I’m disappointed to myself [with my start] but I we can look at it in another way and a podium in this FIA series is really important.”
Of his getaway, Oriola explained: “My start was really bad, I couldn’t feel the point of the clutch. I’ve not had much time with this new car and we’ve focused on set-up rather than starts because last year we were really good on this.”
Oriola capped an encouraging weekend with P10 in Race 3, a result his team-mate John Filippi also achieved in Race 1.
