Vernay takes reverse-grid DHL WTCR pole in Hungary
Jean-Karl Vernay will start the reverse-grid Race 2 from the DHL Pole Position at WTCR Race of Hungary after a nail-biting qualifying session at the Hungaroring.
The Leopard Racing Team Audi Sport driver was pleased to be a contender in the 10-minute Q2 session after a change of chassis following the WTCR AFRIQUIA Race of Morocco season-opener. His Audi RS 3 LMS wasn’t fast enough to push Vernay into the Q3 top-five shootout, but it did ensure P10 – and the DHL pole for Race 2.
“I gave it everything I had,” said the Frenchman. “I don’t feel good this weekend and have a massive headache. But I’m a professional driver and I need to give my best every weekend. So I’m really happy.
“The team changed my chassis after Marrakech and they’ve done an amazing job in these last two weeks. This is my way to thank them and give 100 per cent.
“Yesterday was great to finish fourth in Race 1 and now we just have to go for it in Race 2. I’m just happy to be in the top 10 and it’s vital to score points. We’ll try to be smart, fast and clever, like yesterday.”
He will be joined on the front row by PWR Racing’s Daniel Haglöf in his CUPRA TCR. On the second row, BRC Hyundai N LUKOIL Racing Team’s Augusto Farfus will line up third, with Cyan Racing Lynk & Co’s Thed Björk beside him.
Race 2 of WTCR Race of Hungary takes place at 15h30 local time, with Race 3 due to follow at 17h00.
