WTCR racer Björk hopes for Sunday rain in Slovakia
Thed Björk wants the forecasted rain for Sunday to materialise following a troubled qualifying at WTCR Race of Slovakia yesterday.
Björk and his three Lynk & Co 03 TCR-driving team-mates – Yann Ehrlacher, Yvan Muller and Andy Priaulx – struggled for form on the 5.922-kilometre Slovakia Ring.
The Geely Group Motorsport-developed machines suffered due to a power restriction and the weight they must carry under regulations designed to balance performance in the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO.
Despite those issues Björk made it through to Second Qualifying Q2, ending the session P11. He’s hoping for rain tomorrow when all three races take place.
“I actually didn’t expect to make it to Q2 and P11 is okay considering the circumstances,” said the Swede, winner of Race 3 at WTCR AFRIQUIA Race of Morocco in early April. “The weight and power reduction is playing a big part in the pace that we have this weekend. Hopefully we will get rain on Sunday, that could work in our favour.”
Muller, who was the fastest of the Cyan Lynk & Co quartet in First Qualifying in P17, added: “The situation is obviously frustrating but we can’t do anything else but keep our heads down and continue working hard.”
Meanwhile, Ehrlacher was P26 and P27 in First and Second Qualifying respectively with Slovakia Ring rookie Andy Priaulx P25 and P23.
