Rob Huff was the inspiration as Cherry Cheung tried TCR racing for size at the Sepang International Circuit last month.

The Hong Kong teenager finished ninth in the two TCR Malaysia races at the venue for the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO super-finale later this year.

Driving the Teamwork Motorsport Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR raced by Rob Huff earlier this year, Cheung made progress in every session and drove without error during the weekend, qualifying P12 and making perfect starts in both races on what was her international debut.

“This weekend has been an unforgettable experience for me, to be able to compete with so many great drivers in the Asia region,” said Cheung. “Knowing I was driving the exact same car Rob Huff raced here a few weeks ago, it’s like a dream of a teenage girl come true, but of course I couldn’t perform the magic quite like Rob.

“In conclusion, this was a very satisfying weekend. There are still many areas that I need to improve, but I really want to race again with this team.”
